Tri-State Transit Authority unveils new buses
The Tri-State Transit Authority (TTA) will introduce four new buses at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Pullman Square. The brief presentation is open to the public. The four latest additions to the fleet, which will begin operation the beginning of November, will be on display at Pullman Square during the ceremonies.
All four of the new buses are 30-foot models featuring clean diesel technology that adhere to the 2010 Clean Air Act standards. Manufactured by Gillig Corporation of Livermore, CA., the buses are the second addition with our “new look” since 1997.
The updated buses will seat 32 passengers and accommodate two passengers in wheelchairs. Each bus can also transport two bicycles on the front-mounted rack. The buses include technologies that allow for increased safety and security with the use of multiple video cameras inside and outside of the bus.
“We’re fortunate to have had the opportunity to purchase new buses. TTA aims to serve as the catalyst for bringing together the community’s human, economic and civic resources for the purpose of creating the single most livable, safe and prosperous community in Southern West Virginia,” said Paul E. Davis, TTA General Manager & CEO
Dedication speakers will include Steve Williams, Mayor Huntington, Paul E. Davis, TTA’s General Manager & CEO, Robert L. Bailey, President and Chris Chiles, KYOVA.
The new buses were purchased with funds from a grant which were flexed from the WV Department of Highways for the Huntington, WV, KY, OH Transportation Management Area in the amount of $1.4 million. The delivery of the buses to TTA closes the books on this $1.75 million project with the Federal Transit Administration. The new buses will be operated on various TTA bus routes.
