The Tri-State Transit Authority (TTA) has earned awards in three of eleven categories in the statewide 2015 Transit Excellence competition. The awards are made each year by the West Virginia Division of Public Transit. The awards were presented by the West Virginia Division of Public Transportation, ceremonies held at Stone Wall Jackson Resort, Roanoke, WV.
The excellence of the TTA maintenance program was recognized with the Best Maintenance Program award.
Next, TTA was recognized for the Best Community Project. TTA joined with Downtown Huntington Partners (DHP) to provide a party for the children that were residents of the Huntington City Mission. The celebration was held at TTA’s transfer center in downtown Huntington also known as “TTA Center”. After the party, the children boarded the trolley to ride in the Huntington Christmas parade. Each child received a special gift from TTA and DHP.
TTA was also recognized for an increase in ridership. The award recognizes the growth in the number of boardings on TTA buses and dial-a-ride vans for calendar year 2014. TTA boarded 926,875 customers in the year 2014, up 2% from the 910,223 boardings in the year 2013. According to Paul E. Davis, General Manger, “These statistics are a bit different from what we usually see, as the comparison was between calendar years instead of fiscal years. But, we’re proud of the growth any way you want to look at it!”
Davis says that “All the employees at TTA share in the credit for this award. Without a team spirit and a “can do” attitude, there is no way TTA could have increased the customer boardings as we have in the last year”.
